Privacy notice

Last updated: 27 October 2026

This notice explains how Button Marketing Limited (Button Marketing), a company based in Christchurch, New Zealand, collects, uses and looks after personal information. In this notice, "we", "us" and "our" mean Button Marketing Limited.

We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and its information privacy principles.

What information we collect

When you get in touch. If you email us, call us or use the enquiry form on this website, we collect what you choose to give us. That's usually your name, email address, phone number, business name, website address and anything you tell us about your business.

When you use the enquiry form, Netlify, which hosts this website, also records the date and time you sent it and technical details such as your IP address and browser. It then passes your message to us by email.

When you visit this website.

  • Netlify, Inc., a United States company, hosts this website for us. When you visit, Netlify's servers automatically record technical information such as your IP address, browser type and the pages you request, and this information is stored outside New Zealand, mainly in the United States.

This site does not use advertising cookies or the Meta (Facebook) Pixel.

Why we use it

We use your information to:

  • reply to your enquiry and arrange a chat
  • prepare a proposal if you ask for one
  • keep track of our conversation with you, including following up on a proposal we've sent you
  • keep a do-not-contact record if you ask us not to contact you again

We don't sell your information, and we don't add you to a mailing list unless you ask us to.

Who can see your information

Within Button Marketing, your enquiry is only seen by whoever needs it to reply to you. We also use a few service providers to run the business, and they may store or process your information on our behalf:

  • Microsoft 365, for email, including the copy of each enquiry form message that's sent to our inbox.
  • monday.com, where we keep track of enquiries and work.
  • Google, for Google Drive, where we keep documents such as proposals.
  • Anthropic, for Claude, an AI assistant we use to help us manage email, follow-ups and paperwork.
  • Netlify, Inc. (United States), which hosts this website and stores its server logs overseas, mainly in the United States. Netlify also receives the messages sent through the enquiry form, emails them to us and keeps a copy until we delete it.

Some of these providers store information outside New Zealand, including in the United States. We only use providers we reasonably believe protect personal information in ways comparable to the Privacy Act.

We'll only share your information with anyone else if you agree, or if the law requires or allows it.

How we keep it safe and how long we keep it

We keep enquiry information in our business email, in the online services listed above and in our business files. Only we can sign in to these accounts, and each one is protected by a password or a secure sign-in link. Our business email also uses two-factor sign-in, so a password alone isn't enough to get in.

If your enquiry doesn't turn into work, we keep your details for up to 2 years after we were last in touch, in case you come back to us or we need to follow something up. Then we delete them, including copies held for us by the service providers above. If we're in touch again during that time, the 2 years starts again.

If you ask us not to contact you again, we'll delete your enquiry details. We'll keep only your name, contact details and the date you asked, on a do-not-contact list, so we can make sure we don't contact you again. If you'd like us to delete your details sooner, just ask.

If you become a client, we keep records of our work together for as long as we need them for the work, and our business and tax records for as long as the law requires.

If a privacy breach happens that's likely to cause serious harm, we'll tell you and the Office of the Privacy Commissioner as soon as we practicably can, as the Privacy Act requires.

If you become a client

When you work with us, we may see information in the accounts you give us access to, such as website analytics or ad accounts. We ask for user access that you control, never your passwords, and you can remove our access at any time. How we handle that information is covered by our terms of engagement.

Seeing or correcting your information

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it if it's wrong. Email or call our privacy officer below. We'll respond as soon as we can, and within 20 working days as the Privacy Act requires. It won't cost you anything to ask.
