About Button Marketing
Button Marketing is a marketing company based in Christchurch, New Zealand, working with businesses right across the country. We help owner-operators, SMEs and growing businesses work out what their marketing is actually doing for them, what to fix first, and how to get it done.
Why Button exists
Button was set up to give owner-operators and SMEs the kind of marketing help that's usually only available to bigger companies: someone who looks properly at what's happening, tells you plainly what to fix first, and then helps get it done.
A lot of the businesses we talk to have a website, a Google listing, maybe some ads and a social account. What they don't have is time to check whether any of it is bringing in work. So the enquiry form quietly breaks, the tracking was never set up, and money goes on ads nobody can measure.
How we work
- We start with a Diagnostic, not a sales pitch. You get a clear picture of what's working before you commit to anything ongoing.
- Plain English and honest numbers. If we use a technical term, we'll explain it.
- A short list, in order of impact. What's worth doing first, rather than a long list of everything you could do.
- No go-between. You deal directly with whoever is doing your work, not an account manager, so nothing gets lost in a handover.
- We help get it done. We can fix what the Diagnostic finds, work with your web person, or stay on as your part-time marketing lead.
- Your accounts stay yours. We ask for user access you control, never your passwords.
Keeping up with how people search
How people find businesses is changing. Some people now ask AI tools such as ChatGPT who to call, and for some searches Google shows an AI-written answer above the usual results. If your business doesn't show up there, some customers may never reach your website.
So we keep an eye on both: traditional SEO (search engine optimisation, which helps you show up in Google's regular results) and AI-powered search, which is still changing. We'll tell you what matters for your business, in plain English, and what can wait.

About the founder
Button Marketing was founded by Morgan Potter, a digital marketing specialist who saw small businesses struggling to keep up with the changing digital landscape. Morgan has worked across tourism, education, local government and digital agencies, doing hands-on work in digital marketing, content creation, SEO, paid advertising and strategy. Morgan also holds a Level 7 Graduate Diploma in Digital Marketing (Applied). Right now, Morgan is particularly interested in how AI is changing the way people find businesses, and in making sure NZ businesses don't get left behind.
